When Noreen, an adventurous fourteen year old girl, discovers a mysterious farmhouse on her family’s recently acquired property she thinks she has found the perfect hideout. Hidden under the floorboards, Noreen finds a jar containing unusual marbles and realizes they possess super powers. Noreen and her friend Harvey try some out and comically find having super powers is not as simple as fictional super heroes make it look. When word gets out about their unusual discovery, Noreen and Harvey struggle to protect the powers from the wrong hands. Harvey finds himself in mortal jeopardy, while Noreen leads a power hungry villain on a wild goose chase. Noreen can only hope it ends with her and Harvey still alive.

The Farmhouse Secret was the most entertaining book I have read in a long time. After about 20 pages I was already connected to the charecters and soon thereafter it was hard to put down. I love how the historical storyline weaves in and out of the modern day story, adding to the intrigue. I work with middle schoolers and I can't wait to pass this wonderful book onto them- I know they will love it too! I like how the story is left open so it is possible we will see even more adventures for Harvey and Noreen.Product details

This is a great book. Even though it's mainly for a younger crowd (teens), I really enjoyed it! I could not guess what was going to happen next and it kept me interested the entire way through. I would recommend it highly and am going to buy more books for my teenage nieces.
This is the first book of a series, and the first book for this author. It is a wonderful first book! I am not usually a fan of sci-fy, but this book could change that. The sci-fy part is not so overwhelming that it becomes a belivable story. I will wait, impatiently, for the next book!
Excellent story, most enjoyable book I've read in a long time! I could visualize what the characters were doing page by page, it made me want to join Noreen & Harvey in their adventures & check out that farmhouse myself! Would love to see it turned into a movie. I highly recommend this book, can't wait for a sequal!
First of all, this is a fun, entertaining book to read. On a deeper level, the characters are richly developed with honest, positive relationships between them. It was easy to visualize the interactions between Noreen's friends and family members. I loved the ending and it left me hungry for the next chapter in the story of Noreen and Harvey. Watch for great things from this young author!
This is a quick, fun read that I finished in about 3 hours. Even though it's mainly for a younger crowd (teens), I really enjoyed it! It is fast paced and keeps you guessing. I like historical fiction and I enjoyed how it alternated between present day and past events. Looking forward to seening what adventures Harvey and Noreen find themselves in next. I would recommend it.
In a nutshell, The Farmhouse Secret is a fun story about two teenagers who discover marbles with magical powers. The problem is power corrupts and the two struggle with how to use the powers for good while keeping them out of the hands of those who would use the powers for evil or selfish reasons.
The Good
The main characters were well developed, easy to identify with, and likeable. The overall plot and story is creative, fun, and has a lot of room to grow with additional books. You have a feud between two families, teenagers from these families falling in love, struggles with the marbles and their powers, and in general where the marbles come from. It will be fun to read how these all turn out.
I also quite enjoyed the tie in with some historical events and the use of flashbacks to develop the story in a non-linear fashion. It made for a far more interesting read than your typical book.
Constructive Criticism
I did have a problem with pacing in the story. Half the book went by before I felt much tension between the characters or that they were in any sort of danger. On the other hand, many events in the latter half came and went so fast I had trouble following how they came about. A little more foreshadowing or descriptive lead ins would have evened the story out a bit.
That said, it was a very good read, and I look forward to the author's next story with these characters.
