If they're going to whisper anyway, give them something to shout!
The only thing that’s kept me from being a nobody is my red hair, but most people still get my name wrong or call me ‘Matchstick,’ instead. You know… skinny body, big red head? I’d like to write my peers off as idiots but unfortunately, I owe a teacher for that one!
Being invisible sucks. So to get some attention, I punched my boyfriend for dumping me for my best friend in the middle of math class, broke the school captain’s leg and threw myself at the delicious new guy… right in front of the queen b-cup bi-artch Sonia, who wants Saxon too. I was shameless. Trampy… and now I’m bad news with no school spirit.
...Apparently. They call it ‘Gossip’ and not ‘The News’ for a reason!
I swear that I only did most of that stuff. I think. I don’t know… I was pretty mad so it’s hard to remember... and Saxon Clarke is so pretty that I could cry!
Well, I’m not invisible anymore. And if that American PE teacher thinks that handing me a pair of Pom Poms is going to set me straight... then she’s onto something.
It’s time for this Matchstick to light up.
Just don’t tell anyone I said that… this is high school after all, and liking yourself or hoping for anything is just asking for it...
Venom Book #1 The Vipers Nest eBook Samantha Fenn Alison Murray
Bronte Holloway is having the worst day of her life, and it doesn't help that it's Valentine's Day or that her Junior class is an audience to her embarrassment. Things just keep spiraling, and before you know it, this good girl and near wallflower is reporting to detention.Detention is only the beginning of a new and wild reputation for Bronte, full of spiteful and ridiculous rumors that put her in survival mode. And when she and a group of very unenthusiastic girls are given the opportunity to be part of a trial cheer leading squad or face expulsion for their part in a prank gone wrong, Bronte sees the chance to make her high school year something she can be excited about again.
I received an ARC copy of VENOM, and while I try to constructively note when something misses the mark, I can't give this book anything but a standing ovation. Now, I don't know anything about cheer leading, but whether or not you like or take any interest in the subject, this is a layered story with so much more to it than pom poms. I could flail about the male leads in this one, hashtag it with Team Clarke Bros, and gush about how the romantic aspects are worth some major swooning. But what hit me the most was that this is a story about a girl who is faced with the insecurities and vulnerability that passive-aggressive teens and mean girls tend to inflict on each other.
I was impressed that on top of a well-executed plot that allowed me to read very quickly, that I was also finding so many introspective themes about friendship, loyalty, and the guts it takes to be yourself when judgments have already been made about you. I really felt like the characters in this book were given so many dimensions, and I might as well have been back in my own high school--hearing lockers slam, kids jeering, and interacting with the teachers who wanted to make an example of you as well as the teachers who did their utmost to help you excel.
VENOM has heart, sass, and the crushing butterflies that make for a powerful and exciting Young Adult novel. There are a lot of great books out there, but rarely do you read one that you instantly know you have to share with all of your friends. This is one of those books. Teens, and those who remember the exhilaration and frustrations of being one, are going to love it!

Venom Book #1 The Vipers Nest eBook Samantha Fenn Alison Murray Reviews
Couldn't get through it.
I know I can't spell and grammatical errors are a huge weaknesses of mine, but this is full of them. Overall though the book was alright. I don't really care for HS stories. I left that drama behind when I graduated too many years ago to count.
Give this to your daughters to read!! This book made me sad, happy, warm n tingly! So true to how kids made you feel in high school! I felt for Bronte cause man how much can happen to one girl in a matter of hours!! But I Spose that's how it goes being a teenager ! Loved this book has recommend it to all my friends with teenage daughters! Also read it with in 2 days!
While this wasn't my kind of book or genre I wasn't disappointed and enjoyed reading it. I think it's a book that will be enjoyed thoroughly by the YA audience and is something that they can relate to. I found myself reminiscing of my time in high school and all the troubles, infatuation and challenges that came with it. The book was well written and easy to read. S.K Munt didn't disappoint with the sexy male love interests and the strong willed and determined lead female.
When I started reading the book it dragged me into it that I stopped reading any other highly rated books i had in my library. Come to find out that it's written by one of my all time favorite authors S K Munt using a pen name! What a suprise!!! No wonder why I loved.
This is a great YA book (I'm an adult and I loved it!) full of teenage angst and everything that goes along with high school life in general. Bullying, gossip and mean spirited teens. The coach finds an unusual way to punish four girls for a prank gone wrong and it manages to change the way Bronte views herself and those around her. This story has some interesting twists. I think that teens will be able to identify with this story and really enjoy it!
I really cannot get enough of this author's books!! She had me hooked at the first chapter. Venom surrounds a redheaded girl named Bronte who is having a Valentine's Day from hell!! When her boyfriend breaks up with her for her best friend she has a right to be more than a little upset. Afterwards, in detention, her detention-mates decide to get a few boys back after saying some cruel words and that turns disastrous for one in particular. To make matters worse, the hottie new guy, Saxon, is a part of the disaster that Bronte takes the blame for. In result of the mishap Saxon takes every chance to make a jab at Bronte for the damage done. I really do feel a genuine connection to Bronte in this book. Bronte gets constantly bullied from then on out with wild rumours spread about her at every turn. I have experience in this and it is not a very pleasant thing to bare the brunt of. Though, as the bad becomes worse there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Bronte befriends her detention-mates, and as a unique punishment they are forced to work together to form a cheer squad. I really enjoy these parts of the books because I absolutely LOVE Bring It On!!! This book has something for everyone. I do think that this book ended a little too abruptly for my taste because I really wanted MORE. I will definitely be reading the next book as soon as I possibly can!! I highly recommend this book for EVERYONE especially those who enjoy love-hate relationships, some standing up to bullies action, friends in unlikely situations, and a really hot book boyfriend who is out of reach!!!
